North Dakota Highway Patrol seeks information on sticky syrup leak

MANDAN, N.D. -- There was a leak in Mandan on Thursday, and for now, law enforcement is stuck trying to solve the case. A sticky brown substance was found on an Exit 153 on-ramp as well as other streets just before noon Sept. 13, forcing the closure of Mandan Avenue for approximately three hours.

Authorities closed the scene for safety reasons until they could identify the substance, the North Dakota Highway Patrol said. It was then determined the stuff was 87 percent maple syrup, possibly used for cattle feed.

The North Dakota Department of Transportation completed the cleanup.

If you have any information on the incident or know the responsible party that leaked the substance, call the Highway Patrol at 844-474-6347.
